83' Robinson 24" Cruiser build
« on: September 12, 2014, 11:02 PM »
I consider myself a  very lucky man to add this frame and forks into my Robinson family as it could well be the rarest Robinson model of them all , there are only 3 known in the UK and I thank my good friend and Robinson man himself Carlos for letting me have this from his collection.

I do have a few bits and bobs boxed away already and a few bits on there way to me so looking forward to riding this soon  :daumenhoch:

Carl took his to the 2013 Wigan ride for me to take for a blast Round on ...  ;)

Carl, the team decals on this cruiser await your signature pal.  :4_17_5:

Made a bit of progress this week.

Luckily I have the wheels sourced and had a few bits already boxed up like the stem, seat clamp seat and post, the brakes, grips and levers, cables all sorted.

The BB kit and 41T chainring are a different storey  :-\

I have a certain type of crank that needs a BB kit not available over here...  >:(.   So the  order 's done  and awaiting a man in a small boat with small paddles to bring it ...  :idiot2:

I did plan to fit standard cruiser bars on this build until I researched a bit more and found a few guys used to run these cruisers ran them with the 7" expert bars on them, I guess it won't hurt to try it  ?

Oh and the small issue of finding early 80's Robinson cruiser bars for this... Tumbleweed a will come into flowering season first  "help"

Pics up later this week ...

Darren , you might get more comments on this if you say the following in the description ....

1 . The frame has Tom's cat fur stuck to it and that Carl failed to mention this before he sold it to you .

2 . The sticker on the downtube is actually incorrect  ..... actually making it a Raleigh Pro race cruiser frame

3.  You actually picked the frame up from Carl at MK after waiting 3 months for him to post it to you and then decided not to pay him .

4.  Sell it for twice as much as what Carl sold it to you for .

5.  Confess that it is not an old school Robinson frame and it is actually something you made yourself using some old tubing leftover from the wheelbarrow you built last week .

All those types of threads seem to get a great response ....... surprising considering it's a BMX site ::)

Im looking forward to seeing what you do with it anyway  :daumenhoch:

You know I am agree with you there pal and well said too  :police:

I am surprised to be honest given that I thought this was a BMX forum, certain bikes are so rare and this is one of only 3 in the UK, I would think any BMX build on a BMX forum should be of interest.

I like the Rad build threads and thought I would add this one as an interesting one for the BMX family on here ?

Sadly no BADDH man here.

1.I have not found any Cat Fluff yet
2. I have never Done any flipping.
3.I haven't waited for it longer than 1 day we agreed the deal.
4. As far as wheel barrows go I do have a mint condition one behind the shed, it needs a bit of lemon and Peek to be 8 outa 10 black painted and loves to get down and dirty and I believe is Bisexual...  I bought it from B&Q I have the receipt I am taking it back....  :LolLolLolLol:

On a side note,  I might have my hair styled like Ken Barlow, confidentially can I ask do you think that style and colour would suit me .

(Keep it to yourself about the hair thing)

What do you think  :(

very nice, ive got a 41t chainring on my cruiser but im going to change it to a 43 or 44, when your riding its good for starting off..quick but when you get some speed up it feels like it needs something bigger..just something for you to think about, what colour parts are you going with?

Darren I think the lack of responses is because everybody is in shock that Carlos let this go!

Thats a beautiful cruiser you've got there pal.  I've never built one myself, but a little voice (my back) inside my head is telling me that 2015 will be the year I build one.

I'm going to enjoy this build, have you built one before?

Cheers Guys,

Nick your right there Carl let it go because he knows it was only going to me and He knows I am a Robinson man,  the other reasoning  is it's kept in Wigan and local,  I am very lucky to have this and Carls told me so more than once now  :daumenhoch: top man. !

I will build it the best I can,  it will be built with the justice it deserves, it will ridden on the rides and to those friends on here who want to ride it's there for you anytime  ;)

It will go round the local bmx track and it will be kept immaculately preserved in my house like all the others are...
