Pro Neck vs Pro Neck II stem. Difference?

Hi all. Am looking to get a Pro Neck stem for my next build which is an '84. Can anyone tell me the difference between a Pro Neck and Pro Neck II stem, and what year each of them came out? Would i need a I or a II for an 84 build? Thanks for help

The Pro Neck II came out around 84 I remember rightly from Martinbike, I also read somewhere that the II came out to replace the Pro Neck as they were prone to cracking.

Think the pro neck II was made out of better grade alloy , I bought my first black Pro neck II  back in 1984

My bike is a March '84, so it looks like the Pro Neck I would be the correct one

Jeez, you two are going tight on era correctness, I'd stick one on an 83 frame or maybe even an 82 the way I look at is if there is no spec to go by it could have been an upgrade or replacement a while after I got the bike because that's what I did.

Horses for courses I don't mind some repops like yellow label tyres or ame grips but I'm not keen on the likes rainbow comp 3's or redline twin pinch cranks.

Unless your doing a recreation of a bike found late 80s with a mish mash of parts in that case it doesn't matter what the fook you put on it.

I just didn't want to put a Pro Neck I on, then find out that they were discontinued in 1982 or something like that. I or II should be fine then for an '84 build, but personally I like the minimalism of the Pro Neck I stamping.

Gutted to miss out on yours Bert after dibbing it, but I can't blame you for selling the bike as a complete

Postage is the killer for me as I won't post without full insurance which is why I try to offer package deals to keep the costs down - cost me an extra £20 for £1000 insurance when the ripper went.  Even a stem costs a tenner to post insured.  If another comes my way I'll let you know

The Pro Neck II was an upgrade to the Pro Neck due to the Pro Neck having 'cracking' issues. It was made from inferior alloy which was rectified in the latter version. I think they also upgraded the quill thickness and used a better wedge.
