I have got a soft spot for early US made DK's. A few of my mates rode them back in the day so I have a lot of good memories associated with them. Awesome Bikes.  :daumenhoch:

Sorry for the thread ressurrection.

I got this 97 GL the other day with everything sprayed black. I was hoping to take the rattle can job off and find a decent survivor underneath which hasnt happened as the paint underneath has been lightly keyed and taken down to metal in places.
A couple of q's....is it too far gone to leave as orange for you survivor enthusiasts? Most gen 1's ive seen have a plate on the toptube/head tube but this hasnt (only underneath downtube) how come? And obviously the question of a set up of new decals for this frame.

If its the same decals as on the frame ive just posted that you need then the fella I got this off said he had a spare set of them but couldnt find them as he'd moved recently.  If he found them he said  hed post them to me (I wont hold my breath). If theyre what you're after and he does send them to me I'll send them on to you.

I'll betcha that that General's got a low-ish serial number.

Far as I know (these are all gen 1) the earliest ones have only the downtube gusset and squared off rear drops, mid range seem to have downtube gusset only and rounded drops, and the later gen 1's have both down and toptube gussets with rounded drops.

I could take some photos of the ones on my 24" if that would help, then maybe somebody could make some up from the photos? In other GL news, I picked this (1999/2000 I think) up last Sunday-

The hubs are possibly knackered and I don't like the black bits, but the whole thing was only £50.

:)
