Major temper tantrum help
« on: July 30, 2014, 08:18 PM »
End of my tether time

I can't get my tyres to sit on my 6 spoke skyways, they always go on oval, it's like a fooking clown bike.

It eggs in various ways depending on how hard you wrestle it, it'll inflate way more at valve, or at the valve and opposite side ie at 12 & 6 o clock

This same problem is both front and rear, and two different sets of tyres, both wheels are true

I've inflated slowly while teasing it,
I've taken it off the bike and lay it on it's side so there's no pressure on the tyre as it inflates
I've rammed 80psi in it hoping to pop it into shape
I've thrown it down the garden
I've thrown it back up the garden

The only thing I've not done is replace the inner tubes, but surely as I can make it bulge in different places it's not that

HELP PLEASE!!!

Have you tried partially inflating them and rolling them back and forth with some weight applied to centralise.

Try some tyre lubricant , like you get in a tyre shop like Kwikfit , ATS etc. I took a small empty jar to my local tyre shop and they filled it for me ( I do know them though ).

I've tried rolling and hitting with a mallet while inflating

Tyre lube sounds like a plan

Yeh a little washing up liquid really helps. If still no good try some thinner tubes ( eg if they're 1.75 try 1.5 or whatever is thinner than that ) had to do that with some bearfeets on some zytecs, yet they'll sit on spoked wheels a treat  :chin:

I was going to say change tubes.  :-\

Have you tried inflating the tubes not in the tyres to see if there is a visable problem?  :)

Yer I always pre inflate the tube out of tyre but on the rim to stretch it a bit into shape, they're always folded up so tight and you don't know how long it's been sat on the shelf like that. Probably replace inner tubes it will show clearly if the bulge with this technique.

I heard that Fairy will rot rubber over time :'(
The rubber around windscreens rot if it's used in washer bottles.
Could be an old-wives tale though :tickedoff:
