Brit in Aus

Hey dudes - love the site. Am currently living in sunny Sydney, been here for 5 and a half years but will probably be coming back in the next 2-years so looking to continue the BMX obsession when I'm back.

Got back into BMX about 18-months ago when I was researching a TV show (I work in TV) and found a Hoffman Evel Knievel frame on ebay. I wanted one when they came out but was no-where near cashed-up enough to afford one then.

Built the EK up to how it looks on here:

http://bmxmuseum.com/user/119691/bikes

but it's still a WIP. Defo want to change the wheelset!

Built myself a new-school rider - a Ben Hennon Hoffman Lady Luck (awesome bike), learnt to do re-do some tricks from BITD as a 44/45-year old and built myself a Skyway 24" to cruise around my home suburb of Bondi on.

Also spent the next 18-months looking to find a f&f set for the bike I had as a kid - a DB Pro-Star - and learning the resto scene.
Finally found a Pro-Star f&f set when back in the UK last Christmas and having tracked down the parts I need am about to build it almost exactly as I'd modified it by around 1983/94. Will update you all with pics.

So glad to see the resto/BMX scene is as alive and kicking in the UK as it is here in Aus. There are some great blokes here on ozbmx.com.au with some awesome, awesome bikes and incredible BMX knowledge, just like here.

Cheers

Steve

Hi mate. Yep seen it, love it. I don't get too hung up on going for the OG look but I love what he's done with his. Maybe I should.

I go for a 'new bike' look for all of my bike builds ... probably a result of being given a boneshaker for my Christmas present by my hard-up parents as an 11 year-old when I wanted a brand new Raleigh Grifter! Hah!

They later sorted me out with a Team Murray, bless 'em, which I then upgraded to the Pro-Star which I sold for 50-quid (yep, really) when I was hard-up at Uni in 1991 ... but I'm about to re-build it. Come onnn!

Welcome to RAD Steve  :daumenhoch:

Nice TA24  :coolsmiley:

Ahh thanks guys. I was still in my infancy in this BMX resto business when i built it. I based it on my ProStar as a kid cos i never thought I'd find one as they are rare as hell here in Australia. Now I've found one its my priority build but have since acquired a Hoffman Flash ff set, a DiamondBack Viper and all parts which is packed away for the little fella when he's old enough, a 97 S&M Sabbath ff and parts, a 96 NOS Hoffman Condor and parts and a 97 Big Daddy ff set and parts too. All ready to build up.

Also about to sell a 2009 Limited Edition Haro Freestyler and an 83 Aussie Crossrider ff/bars set.

I've been busy! And my bank account has felt it! But ff sets and parts still seem to be a bit cheaper here than in the UK which worries me a it considering our impending return home. Yep i got the bug big time!
