Just wondering who out of you lot kept up with the latest kit by parting out your Araya 7x's in favour of Araya aero's, your MX1000's for MX901's or your tech3's for tech4's etc....

Just a thought as on a cutting edge build in 85 you'd expect it to have the latest technology/parts, yet very few seem to use them on builds  :-\
If there's air in the tyres... it's a rider

Yep changed from mx1000 to pitbulls and junked the tuffs for aero`s  , problem with builds today are they are era correct not a mish mash of parts that we used bitd .
Don`t forget as well a lot of people gave up in 85 where as i just started getting into bmx and rode through the dark days but fun days ie meanwhile 2 ,chingford, romford and southbank so on

I don't think most of us could afford that much brand new kit. In 1990 I was racing cruiser and 20" that were both basically early/mid 80s bikes with a few newer bits (Crupi stem & Revcore bars on the Cruiser, Haro bars on my 20"). On muddy tracks having things like sealed bearings all round made more difference than lighter/newer parts.
I don't remember EVER seeing bikes where all the bits matched.  The only bikes I really recognise are the March/Ruffell/Schoff replicas.

Changed my 890's for MX1000's and then to a Pitbull.
My Nova frame to a Pro Racer and my Speedlines for Araya Aeros.
Also changed my unbranded chain ring for a PPP.
Used quite a few different grips as well. Loved Jive Handles.
