Quick Free Agent question!
« on: July 15, 2014, 02:25 PM »
I know that VDC built the first Free Agents in '83/84-ish but does anyone know who built the mid to late-80s framesets before KHS took over in the 90s??

No takers? If VDC shut up shop in the mid-80s then I presume someone else started making subsequent FAs, even if the design stayed the same. FA experts please enlighten me!

No idea, I have a 1990 free agent limo, it has a GT-esque serial number (first two digits month, second two digits year, last four digits frame number) so it may have come from GT or  a partner of GT.

I hadn't even considered GT! If that's the case, I wonder if they were made in the States or possibly Taiwan? Thanks for the suggestion.  :)

KHS perhaps, and seems like some frames were made in US others overseas in that period.

you looksky here
"acording to FA, KHS was producing frames in the late 80's although they didn't own them at that time."
(Kastaman @ http://www.vintagebmx.com/community/lofiversion/index.php/t16000948.html)

you looksky there
"1991 model year lower quality complete bike models and parts. These were made overseas by KHS and were branded Free Agent."  1991 Free Agent catalogue: "Those and the pedals, grips, and stem were made overseas by KHS. It also shows the made in the USA Free Agent frames, forks, bars, and seatposts." (Galen Starlin)

u looksky Kastaman again:
When I e-mailed, Dan I think was his name, Free Agent he said that KHE did produce some frame for FA in the mid to late 80's prior to going into full bike production. I'm stumped as to what it might be if its not a limo.
