Pedal axle help required
« on: July 11, 2014, 10:41 PM »
Well, here's hoping anyway's.

I have a set of ACS Stoker pedals in 1/2". I require them in 9/16. Unfortunately, when taking the axles out, you begin to understand why many just give up.

I don't really want to go down the expensive route of getting some machined in cro-moly or steel and case hardened.

If you take a look at the axle, it has splines behind the bearing cup nut. I am not sure what the purpose of these are for but they are level with the internal bearing cup. The bearing nut cup keeps the bearings off them when done up. The axle only uses a bearing cup nut and is fitted with sealant to stop it coming undone.

With this mind, if I can find an axle long enough that does require a bearing cup nut and locking nut, there is room inside the pedal to allow this.

What I require gentlemen please, is some help in finding axle replacements. I am thinking along the lines of old school rat traps. If anyone has a set of 9/16 rat trap pedal axles they can provide measurements and pictures on, this would be great.

Any other ideas are also welcome  :daumenhoch:

These are the ACS axles and measurements.

Overall length of the axle = 129 mm

The space between the rear edge of both bearing races on the axle = 87 mm

From the end of the bearing race thread to the rear edge of the rear bearing race = 105 mm

and the splines.

Have you considered adaptors Terry?. Not ideal i know but a quick solution if its for a rider while you get sorted  :)
Sixteen thirty-two. What is that? A year?   No, it's your top score on Pole Position.

Not keen on those Clint. They extend the pedal out further than it should be and put too much strain on the thread area in the crank arm. Thanks for the idea though buddy  :daumenhoch:

It's the spline that's the problem , what goes on the spline ?
Could get them made out of titanium but I fell into that trap of expense.

I have looked on the original advertising sheet of ACS and they don't mention anything about 1/2 only, it's a long shot, i have contacted someone in the States that had a set in 9/16 but wanted 1/2, the post is a couple of years old but I have been very lucky in the past.
