Thanks Nath. Interesting....
I bought the frame & forks as a set on ebay about 3 years ago. They came with a headset that was almost completely seized up, and when I did get them apart, the bearings and grease were in a terrible state, so I doubt the frame & forks had been split, or even touched for many years. The condition of the chrome on the frame/forks, and the original decals were also in exactly the same condition, further adding to the theory that they had been as part of the same set for many years. The original decals on the forks were the 'cr-mo' ones, but I preferred the look of the 'Aero' ones, so asked Del to do me a set. The serial on the BB is T840001388 - could it be a very early '84 frame with the leftovers of the '83 forks?

I'm sure there would have been quite a bit of cross-over of parts, as some were phased in, and others out. They were only kids bikes after all! Who would have thought that 30 years on, middle aged blokes would be wetting their knickers at the sight of an old frameset  :D

Could be mate  :) Without doubt it is an 84 frame and I would probably say it was number 1388 off the production line  :teef: I would point out though that MT seemed to stamp the next frame (regardless of model) with the next available number. Example Superfox 001, UFO 002, Silverfox 003 etc

Do you have any pics with the original decals ?

I don't have any photographs of the original decals. The downtube and headtube ones were exactly the same. The fork decals just said cr-mo, instead of aero cr-mo. The seatpost decal is the same, although the original one had a slight yellow tinge to the background. The original decals were intact, but cracked and faded so they had to go...

I know what you mean. I saw a sweet-looking white Silverfox for sale over on the Museum last month for what seemed like a reasonable price! I was seriously tempted even though another bike is the last thing I need at the moment!!  :crazy2:

Be my guest! I might have to put my Hutch style copy cheapo stem on it though, as it feels short. Need to get every inch out of it that I can
