Author Topic: MOST ICONIC OLD SCHOOL FREESTYLE BIKES TOP 6 (Read 20032 times)

I have seen several threads with reference to what is the "The Holy Grail " but of course Human nature means everyone replies with the bike they as an individual most want. Now an old 80s Catalouge Iron House is very rare (probably because they were so s**t and they broke in half making them easier to throw on the tip) so very hard to find, but that doesnt make it a Holy Grail.
Its a shame as i would love to know what are considered the ultimate top 5 bikes to find.........

However ..... to make this easier i thought i would ask for the following...

Name what you would Consider the top 6 Iconic Old School Freestyle Bikes ?
(This may avoid a list of what we are looking for or would actually would like to own/build)
Whether you like em or not ...which would you consider most iconic ?

Personally speaking

Haro Freestyler 1982
Skyway Ta 1983
Haro Sport 1984
Hutch Trickstar
GT Pro Performer 84
Pk Ripper

But hey, im interested in what you radsters think :-)

I would have a DP Firebird Freestyler in my top 6 in place of the PK Ripper above

from a UK perspective you'd have to rate the DP ... but still had to displace any of those.

I remember the DP very heavily advertised as a frame and forks kit in all the mags so from a UK sense it was definatley on the wish list of many, but does that make it iconic.

I guess if we are really talking iconic then the Blue and yellow Tuff Burner should be there ....it was probably the advert for BMX that got us all hooked in the first place.

When i say iconic..i mean in the sense that the Chopper and Grifter were iconic....
Therefore perhaps for the UK the Tuff Burner was the most iconic.....and then came the Haro and the Skyway .

I've never considered a Ripper as a freestyle bike. Only ever saw them on the track bitd.

No you asked what were the iconic freestylers of the 80's.......The MKI Tuff burner is in no way a freestyler.......probably one of THE iconic old BMX of the 80's yes, but a freestyler it is not.

The DP freestyler was the frame set choice of all who rode burners and then wanted to progress.

At the risk of flaming your thread, is the Skyway TA, and the PK Ripper, considered Freestyle? I would have put them firmly in the "Race" bucket.

TAs and Rippers were race bikes but used by some heavy hitters for freestyle ... look at Vic Murphy's DBI TA

Craig Campbell and Chris Young to name another 2 rippers on TAs for freestyle ... Curb Dogs ... the list goes on!

OK, OK, so the Skyway TA and PK Ripper are Freestyle bikes, and not Race Bikes used for Freestyle.

I think the list is pretty bang on, expect the bike always dreamed of owning was a Haro Master in 84

People rode rippers and T/a's and quads as they were very well made framesets that could take abuse, unlike Burners

Not all of us had parents that would chop a T/a in for a CW freestyler or a Hutch trickstar! Cos they are freestylers

for me It would be pretty much the same except there would be a cw freestyler and a vdc , vdc being the holy out of my reach then and especially now I remember seeing my first vdc freestyler in hot wheels in cosham where mick whitlock of whitehawk fame went after whitehawks closed down
