i think the original spec included a freehub and flatland gearing

nah the Ruler was sold as more of a Jumping/Park bike!
it had a clamp on stem, kneesaver type bars, 48 spoke wheels & 4 pegs,potts front cable & gyro, almost certain it had 44/16 gearing too 
quite a good bike retailed at £399 i think 
i'm sure i have a mag with a review, i'll scan it later & email it to you if you PM me your addy 

better still let me look for the mag first & i'll let you know once i've found it, got a bit to do tonight as i'm in hospital tomorrow for an op first thing in the morning

i used to ride with a lad who had one in 97

i will check back in my old ride magazines

i think it had the steel khe freehub on it
it was quite short too

I bought a Heavy Tools Ruler when they came out back in '96.  The forks bent in less than 2 months of riding.  I had been using a Skyway T/A for 12 years with no problems, doing exactly the same kind of riding, so I was not very impressed by the Ruler - Or the fact that Ison Distribution refused to honour their warranty and replace the forks!

did that really happen? i know some hardcore riders that still use heavy tools & i know thomas who built them has never heard about that, maybe you had a reject batch, you should have emailed thomas instead of going through the distributors........

Not sure about the Ruler, but I had a Screamer that held up really well. Bit short, but solid.
Sold it to a friend's kid a few years back and at the time I told him there was no way he'd be able to bend or break it. It's still going strong today.
There was a shot on a Ride cover a few years back, maybe even a review. Good bikes, I thought.

  Hi, here is a pic of my heavy tools bike, i dont no what model it is, but i have just rescued it from a scrap dealer.  Its a good looking bike that looks as good as new. A pretty good find i think!!

that looks like a Heavy Tools Screamer to me 

nice find, looks like a decent 3 peice crank too

they came from the factory with a 1 piece crank, was looking at an advert for them on the loo this morning in an old mag! thats how i knew what it was straight away

 i have been trying to get info on heavy tools bikes, but have drawn a blank.... cant find nothing on them at all except who designed and made them.
