what time frame do you call mid school? i know i stopped riding in 84 to persue a career in hiphop, i startedriding again in 95 after seeing all the new school bmx's come out, i would say mid was about 88-94...am i correct?

it is what it sais it is mid school ..ie mid way between now and the start 1980s 1990s and 2ooo

For Me...

Vintage = Pre 82
Old School = 83 - 87
Mid School = 88 - 99 (1" and early 1 1/8" HT)
New School = 00 onwards (1 1/8" HT)

in 95 all the shops started stocking new school bikes, aheadset, 14mm axles etc & i still see people riding standards, s&m's & haros from that era on the parks thats why i wouls class anything after that really to be new school

I thought that it was generally accepted that old school was up to 1985.

I`m not that sure what date you could say mid school started, it would be more the style of the bike that would determine weather it was mid school or not..........................

When you broke every bike you could get your hands on to Grind Rock n roll and fakie wall ride everthing in sight.

and now wish you hadn`t as on the Evilbay you could have made a fortune.

and where have all the Mk1 mongoose Menaces with the allen keyed on bash guard gone i bought a brand new one when they came out brilliant machine.

Mid School?

It is a little known fact that it was indeed I that came up with the title 'Mid School'

I used to frequent Vintagebmx.com right at the beginning when it was still oldschoolbmx.com

I found that none of the users on there would even entertain talking about stuff from the mid 80s and onwards (i.e. from the Neon years!)

I started riding in '79 (which was the dawn of BMX over here) but my best times where from '87 till about '95 when the sport was dead apart from your real dedicated riders and if you missed out on that era shame on you!

There was nothing to call those years (apart from the dead years) so I came up with the label Mid School (it was obvious really Old School, New School......Mid School)

So, the official line on this is

Mid School = 1987 till 1995

if thats the real deal, then thats the real deal, youve heard it from the man who coined the phraze, end of!, 1987-1995

i always had in my mind it was 1989-1996, dont know why just did.

would also say vintage was pre 80 as a good few bikes in 80/81 didnt change much thro to 85/86
