I put a crank in the freezer a few days ago and forgot about it...........  Personally I can only see the funny side, but have decided that caution should take precedence over valour, so I'm hiding in the garage.

Why put a crank in the freezer?  ???

That's exactly what she said funnily enough.......  NOS chain ring was a bit tight on a set of CT 175s, so rather than force it on and knacker the anno I used the cold to shrink the cranks a gnats knacker and it dropped straight on.

Inverse of the freezer trick, was restoring one and wanted to remove the shaft, alloy will heat and expand earlier/quicker than the steel.

Steps:

Get yourself a nice thick plank of wood, drill a 7/8" hole in the middle of it, loosen the big bolt in the stem shaft until its only biting by a couple of threads, put whole stem in the oven (Jamie recommends gas mark 6  :2funny:) for 10 min's, remove from oven, drop through hole in plank, place assembly over a vice (or edge of worktop etc) and tap top of large stem bolt lightly with rubber mallet, block of wood etc. It will fall apart without damaging either piece. Use the freezer (on shaft) to put back together without risk of damage  :daumenhoch:

Got the frames out before the other half came back but failed to drain said bath. Only thing mentioned was: 'Why is the bath full of piss?'
