Steve it can be done as a lacquer applied over the chrome but a decent fart next to it can often be enough to make it come off... I had a few done by the lad on Burner world up in Darlington who's name escapes me but I think was Mark. The company was Impressive Finishes I think?
Look on my page on me & my bikes and you will see them both. There was a guy on here who sent his to Australia to get the proper chemical process done but my god it was expensive. Looked out of this world though, so you get what you pay for I suppose
