My most extravagant build so far starts here :)
« on: May 02, 2014, 02:31 PM »
Just thought I would share my latest build and hopefully get some encouragement from you chaps :daumenhoch: I recently parted with a quad freestyle frame and a Jap Trickstar as I was struggling to get the builds right and the colours looking all good. I am also thinking that three high end builds maybe better than 6 or 7 mid range frame sets with low end parts. :) I would never normally have the funds for something like this, but I paid for my quad and trickstar with savings over the years. Anyway here is what arrived from the USA (£60 customs charge) this morning bright and early :daumenhoch:

Oooh I am so exited :D

 ;)

I really hope I can do this justice. I have enough parts to build it, but I might change some depending on how it looks. I was thinking red tuffs, white tyres, some red anno parts and some blue parts the same shade as the decals. It might need some yellow in there too to match the decals. I am still a bit of well, pretty much all of a newbie and I want to fit a gyro set up so might need some help. Oh and I didn't get the bolts for the bashguard, so have asked the seller, but if nyone else knows where to get them from, that would help out. Please be kind but feel free to be honest and let me know what you think. Cheers, Jonathan :daumenhoch:

Good score, Thats in good shape. In my honest opinion, i wouldn't go too much for "co-ordination" on a 1989 bike. Unless you want the look of a factory complete. No bike that i saw in them days was anything like co-ordinated. Yeah stick some high end bits on it, that frame deserves it, but dont bother with mags either, they're crud. Chrome wheels, good 3 piece cranks then whatever floats yer boat after that.
Happy building.

Sent from the toilet whilst curling one out.

I have more and more time for Bashy's. Very tempted by one myself.  Whatever you do, treat it to some super pro's. You won't regret it :daumenhoch:

Thanks for the comments so far. I am ashamed to say I do not know what super pros are :idiot2: I will look them up. I have just put together a few more parts and have never fitted a gyro or three piece crank either :-\ But will attempt to do it on this build. Some of the parts I have used have been sitting around the house for ages, so if I like how they will look, I might switch them for better parts later on.

Just added, Bars ect :daumenhoch:

Its tricky finding light blue parts as most of the blue stuff I  see is anno'd and darker. I have some nice blue nippons, but they are on another build, so might be looking for another set. It seither that or get some red mx1000's I have the red tuffs, white seat, white tyres, red post so will stick those on it later to see what it looks like and in the meanitime I will check out those super pro's Thanks for looking and all the best, Jonathan :daumenhoch:

Morning Jonathan,

Looks like a lovely framset! I wish i was building one.  Superpros are 48 spoke wheels made by peregrine.  They look great on Haro's...NitroHopper has a set currently for sale (amongst other things) as he's splitting up a Sport. If it were mine, i'd be putting Super Pro's on it 8)

3 piece cranks are very straightforward, and setting up a Gyro is simple too.  I get the impression that you're going with parts you have to hand, rather than 'correct' parts. If you want to be more 'correct' then this bike needs Haro Kneesaver bars, a fusion stem, Fusion 3 piece cranks. :daumenhoch:

Out of interest, how much was shipping from the US for the F&F?

Cheers fella :daumenhoch: I wish I had the funds to do it factory spec, but as I know only a little about these framesets, Ill probably try out all the parts at hand. I was thinking red tuffs, but am thinking white tuffs with blue comp tyres, might look sweet. All my builds have tuffs on, so if the red and white tuffs dont work out, I might go for some spokes. It normaly costs $80 for a frame and forks sent USPS priority mail international. Its better if they ship with this method as it links up with parcelforce, when the package reaches the UK. Its also one of the cheaper services. He put the value at $350 which meant I had to pay £70 customs as its done on a percentage of the value and postage costs, there are ways to avoid it but involves the seller marking the item as either gift, a low value under £30 or frame for repair, but most US sellers dont like doing it :daumenhoch: I will post up more pics soon and thanks for the advice, Cheers, Jonathan :)

Just adding a few more parts :daumenhoch:

I am liking the tuffs and tyres and now have tried out the seat and post :)

Not sure on the seat and post, maybe a white layback with a light blue seat would be better. I have the seat to try, but not the white post.  I am pretty happy with the rest of it so far. Just need some white upper gyro cables and me bottom bracket cups and then I will be pretty much done :daumenhoch: Thanks for having a look and for your comments. Cheers, Jonathan :)
