Early Beater vs. later Beater - What we saying??
« on: May 01, 2014, 10:08 AM »
So in my search for the KHE Beater frame, i discovered that they changed the design circa 2001/2003 (after i stopped riding) i was fortunate enough to get my hands on both.... now i need to decide on which frame to use to complete the project....

I have (what i believe to be) a very early Beater in White and a very late 2003 model in blue.... both fairly heavy (as were most in that era)  - whats the general consensus of the two?

i understand that the early models seat tube were made of a different material making them prone to cracks and weakness - this one seems to be fine... on the other hand the later models have a built in gyro..... Hmmmm

Whats people saying?

Later 2003 KHE Beater

Early Model - not sure on year.... maybe 96?

Cheers mate! thats a new one on me! thanks for the heads up... any other underlining issues? also....

I saw on another threat that the beater frame dates back to 93/94?... i thought it was launched in 96/97

this is the thread i've seen suggesting the release was 93...

thanks people - i checked the KHE History and it does say on their site that it was launched in 96...

http://www.khebikes.com/2014/1996-2000-p-1258.html

thanks for the feedback so far... looks like the White frame is in the lead so far... can anyone tell me if they are the original decals? maybe they just used the KHE letters before using the car decal?

they are the decals i had in mind... there is a very slim chance (and i mean slim chance) that i could get my hands on a set of originals (their in a draw in Germany somewhere - Unused) - friend of a friend kind of situation....  :-[

the ones that are on the bike look familiar - i thought i had seen them before - baybe on the original beater - 05 ish...

sorry mate - yeah, the ones on the cover are the ones i had in mind for my project.... (the Car decals with red beater lettering) i think these are circa 97 however i was unsure if the first line of beaters had a different decal set - ie - the ones on my white frame.... if this is an early frame say 95 ish i may have found a little gem....

these are the ones close up: (also on a 97 beater)

ah, get it now - and i just read the Beater was designed in 1993 (http://www.khe-bmx.com/)
perhaps you could ask Del to repro the decals (the ones on your white frame) in any case?

also there#s a contact form on the khe site, maybe they know something about dem stickers

and 96 sounds right: that's consistent with the serials on the bikes on the museum (WF98E3580 for a '98 and 9701305 for a 97)

Hi mate - yeah, I've already set a form on the KHE site.... had nothing back as yet - that was about 2 weeks ago now

I sent Del a msg too to see if he can send me a picture - still awaiting response see what happens. in the meantime the white Beater is booked in to be dipped and re powdered back to its original white colour and i will be putting the blue one back on the market if i can bring myself to do it: such a beast of a frame! side by side the difference quite a bit!

Na - Beater was deffo designed in 96 - production models out late '96. Think they might have got it wrong on the KHE site (or there's something they're not telling us  :LolLolLolLol: )

For your pleasure, the Jason Davies interview from Ride mag about his sig frame from August 1996:

Oh yeah, and the car deecs were the first version ones (with the drill/whisk paint mixer top tube decals).

i fking love the internet! nice one Danny! will have a read!....

in regards to the telephone call - i will most definitely do so Fischflo - TBH due to German efficiency i was expecting a call from KHE before i finished sending my message to them!!... unfortunately that was not the case!... :2funny:

Actually!.... i was talking to Mark Pettersson yesterday, nice chap! -  i'm sure he will be able to shed some light on the matter. He worked with KHE

I don't remember the white frame decals to be honest, with many KHE beater frames being chrome and then having clear paints as time progressed.
Definitely 96 onwards in terms of when the beaters were manufactured.

I might have some blueprints somewhere?

i noticed in the article that Danny posted, JD talks about the chap in the US that designed them - his name (what looks like) Mike Maas or Mass? - may be worth a try...

Danny - can you confirm Mikes Last name at alll buddy?

cheers
