Dyno Compe - Hardest Build I've Done Up To Now...
« on: April 15, 2014, 07:16 PM »
...as I'm building it for someone else.

It belongs to one of my best mates, Dave - the guy who builds the 1/18 scale Ford's. This and the parts he is buying are all bought with profits from the model making.

He asked me to build a replica of the baby blue one I built 2 years ago, but Dave is a very impatient guy and didn't want to wait (even though I advised him to) for a frame set the same as mine.

He spotted this one on the bay and fell in love with the colour, I tried to steer him away but he insisted, bid and won.

The hardest part building this is getting the image in my head of what it should look like, and trying to keep Dave happy with what he wants, it's his bike and cash after all.

Anyone else had this kinda headache.?

It is a nice colour Patric. The seller described it as Fiola/GT yellow, but I think it's standard Ford signal yellow.

Dave has decided on white parts, which will look good. As he says, it's to go on the wall in his man cave, and will never be ridden.

I fitted the headset tonight, it was the one the seller threw in with the bike, it's been painted, not brilliantly, but Dave wants a white one so is happy with it, although I had to add 2 black spacers, which look a bit naff.

I've had both my brother and my mate take up the old BMX recently, and although I've not built there bikes, the hours of advice, knowledge and history I've given them has been exhausting, at one point, my phone, Facebook, messenger would be pinging almost constantly with links to what was normally utter crap on eBay, I lost it at one point, and actually only came on rad for three days straight, my phone was off I disconnected the house phone and logged out of everything, both of them even phoned my missus and my brother also phoned two of my kids ffs trying to get hold of me, in the end strong words had to had with them both about how to use google and not rely on me as much to their disbelief I have a life! Never again, let them make the noob mistakes, just like I did

Cheers Nick, he's bought new type Tuffs and repop DC MX1000's.  ::)

He has a habit of asking for my advice, and doing completely the opposite of what I suggest.  :LolLolLolLol:

I think the black spacers match the stickers well, with the white/black outline  ;)

All the parts for this are now bought and paid for.

Dave has been regularly sending me pics of stuff he wants on his bike, some of which I've been advising him to swerve, solid white chains for example.

He bought this with some nice Dyno bars, I say nice, but they arrived looking like a piece of cartoon cheese, yellow and full of holes, something the seller failed to photograph, or describe, so if the seller is a RAD member, then you are a sneaky Cnut IMO.  >:( Dave is just getting a decal to cover the holes.

Other parts are:

White repop Kashi Aero
White tech IV levers
White repop MX1000 converted to take a Potts mod
White Tuffs
White freestyle tyres,
White Dyno stem - sent by the seller of the bars after questioned about the bars
White A'me grips
Chrome 1 piece
White 44t chainwheel (4 arm type)
Yellow layback
White DC repop seat clamp
White GT fork standers
White/Black KMC zebra chain
Bear trap type pedals

I think it will look sweet when it's done.

Few updated build pics.

It's actually turning out a nice little build this. You need to remember that this is a build for a non-BMX person (someone that likes the look, but not familiar with building or eras etc).

It's all his imagination, with a bit of my steering that's got us this far, I think he'll love it.

The tyres are going, he insisted on these, but he's doing some joinery work for me today, so I've ordered him some white amber wall Panaracers from Moonster.

i would say around 90 Dan as it has 990 mounts on the chainstays...........which while we're on that subject, why the fook has he chosen a crappy side pull caliper over a nice powerful 990?

just a personal thing but having the lugs sticking up like that make it look wrong.

Get a nice polished 990 on it  :daumenhoch:
