Old school newbie, East Yorkshire.

Hi guys,

Found this site by random to be honest, back in the day I had a couple of diamond backs and a Scorpion, all pretty mundane stuff by the standards of this site, but I had a friend who spent far too much of his pocket money on Haro and S+M frames, always put mine to shame!

Now of course I'm in my 30s, a lot less fit and when I do get out on a bike it tends to be a road bike, but I still have a soft spot for BMXs and look wistfully after them as I see the local kids bunny hopping off kerbs, god I miss those days of no worries!

I do a lot of bike restos as I run a business restoring classic cars alongside my sensible day job, it used to be my main income but I decided to take the reliable money rather then the sporadic self employed income of the classics, can't leave it behind though and restore 3-4 cars a year, inbetween I do a couple of bike builds either keeping them for myself or selling them on, I fell really lucky last year and found a new old stock Raleigh Pro race, my childhood race bike, absolutely awesome to see it again, my next mission is to find a scorpion, so I will be watching the classifieds very closely! I had a lovely (heavy as anything but I loved it) Scorpion in white with the twin top tubes, one piece crank, spoked wheels with black rims, that frame took some hammer over the years, I ended up fitting a 5 speed rear block and mech and it stayed on for years, to be honest it transformed the bike, it was heavy anyway so a bit extra weight didn't matter, but made riding the bike pleasurable I did hundreds of miles on it as a teenager. Once I extended the seatpost too far and coming down after a jump it broke the seat tube top off, a very uncomfortable ride home with no saddle to learn how to braize with my dad watching over me and it was good as new though.

Happy days!

Oh excellent that sounds fun, not far either, currently live in Driffield, but used to live in a village called Skipsea, hence the gears on bmx I had to ride everywhere, used to ride across the cliffs and beach to Bridlington on summer hols every day and ride round there.
