1987 GT Performer :: Purple People Eater
« on: April 13, 2014, 12:11 PM »
Back in April 2013 I bought this spray bombed white GT Performer, thankfully a member on here had a set of forks...they didn't match but at least it was a frame set. I'd always desired one bitd so this is going to be the opportunity to build something like I would have done.

The frame and forks are in good nick - nothing nasty at all.

After some hunting I procured a set of correct era GT Performer bars from another member who kindly removed the paint to double check the stamp.

DS7 serial number under the BB means it was Japanese made. Fine by me.

Despite the forks matching the bars by some coincidence I had decided on another direction to take with this build and sent off everything to SBD once a ragged chrome seat post had arrived.

Many weeks passed and on a nice sunny saturday I headed up to Dan in the winter project 924 and collected my booty!

Dan was kind enough to return my Performer in this amazing state of purple!

S T O K E D.

Whether it's indoors or out in the gleaming sun - this frame set is delicious.

Dug it out of a tropical heatwave in my loft to apply the custom decals from DEL and partly assemble it - you can see clearly now where I was going with this build - this was the first time I had the bits together like this:

The camera angle makes it look like a junior but I can assure you it's 'full size'  ;D

haha! from instagram to rad - man I'm sorely tempted but I'm unsure - I was tending towards black tyres to balance all the vibrancy of the rest of the colours...but that green oooweee

Yeah Dan, slow progress as I was waiting for the right kind of colours to pop up - but got into the loft and fitted these a  couple of days ago:

I nabbed some neon pink bubble font Ame Tri's from tfi_friday Alan which lead to the purchase of a matching neon pink RS saddle - hey if you're going custom eighties colour madness...
