mongoose bottom bracket
« on: April 07, 2014, 05:23 PM »
hi there,

ive strip out my 87  mongoose decade ready for powderm, when I took the bottom bracket apart
on oneside it says mongoose and on the other side it has 28 stamped on it,does this mean it is
a 28tpi bottom bracket?

my question is would it be easier to swap it for a 24tpi bottom bracket as it seems nearly all
cranks seem to be 24tpi and therefore will I can get a crank a lot easier

many thanks for your help and opinions on this

As far as I know mongoose used 28tpi up to middle of 82 then 82 onwards changed to 24tpi.

On all the goose's I've had up to 85 all had 28tpi one piece cranks and bottom brackets.  :) Never had an 86 so cant comment on them.  :-\  By the sounds of it if yours is an 87 they were still using them then.  :)

24tpi cranks and bottom brackets are a lot easier to source.  :daumenhoch:

that's what I thought BMX1973,dont see many 28 tpi cranks for sale

I think the bottom bracket and crankhas been replace with one from an earlier  mongoose
as the crank is only 165 and has mongoose on it(I think a mongoose motomag had them fitted)
and from the spec sheet for an 87 decade it should be a 175 sr crank :daumenhoch:

I run a 165 on my motomag as i like a short crank on it. It was original to a minigoose  :daumenhoch:
