Peregrine Crazy 95 Wheel Build...
« on: April 05, 2014, 05:07 PM »
A couple of years ago, I bought a set of Peregrine Crazy 95's of Dan Harris and I absolutely love them!!

I got looking into how much work would be involved to make another set, mainly just for the hell of it I guess lol.  Well...that time has come!  :daumenhoch:

I bought a well used pair of Perry 48's off Rog "Adenough" ages ago and set those aside to be my donor wheels for the project.  I cut all of the spokes out to save faffing around and got stuck into marking out the rims/hubs for the additional holes.  Unfortunately I don't have any photos of the marking out but its pretty straight forward :) .  When youre drilling the hubs, dont forget to leave one of the "would be" holes undrilled.....this is to account for the valve hole  :daumenhoch:

So here are the rims and hubs after I drilled them out:

Next up came the polishing.....I got in contact with Joff "Norty40" and he welcomed these badboys with open arms!!  I wouldnt have done knowing how much work went into them! Lol.  I cant thank Joff enough for all of his help, the bloke should be King!!!  This is how they looked when King Joff sent them back to me  :4_17_5:

I also grabbed some "custom cut spokes" and long nips from Joff's mate while they were being polished...

Once I had it all in my mits I set about lacing them up.....  Im not gonna lie.....it took me the best part of 5 hours to lace them both and get the tension nice!  But they were definitely worth it!!  Del helped me out too with some rim decals.......have a look and see what you think......Im seriously chuffed with them!!!!  :4_17_5:

Cheers dude  :daumenhoch:

Nope not going on the WAL, although they would look sweet....hmmm.  The WAL is getting the twisted spoke treatment on a pair of super pro's when I can find the last bloomin rim lol.

Really not sure what im gonna mount these on yet? lol.  I might need a new build haha

Cheers mate but tbh i just bought a brand new rim off ebay , re drilled and polished it ,  ended up losing shit loads of cash but at least it kept Gav happy  ::) :D

Seriously though , quite a bit of work , a lot of sanding to keep all the sides flat and true etc . I did PM Gav when they arrived and said the front one might be beyond me as i don't own a steam roller !!  It turned out well though in the end , you can't tell it's the same rim  .

:LolLolLolLol: ...... I was too excited to leave them wrapped up haha.

Took me the best part of 5 hours today get them built but I love them!!  I want a pair for every bike now lol.

Ill definitely send any polishing jobs your way Joff.....(ill even queue up if I have to lol)  the finish is amazing!!

Looking back I should have just sourced another rim to save you the aggro lol.

And those sweets you sent me definitely took me to the next level......next time ill get in your car I promise haha  :daumenhoch:

Cheers Stu :)

Yep the originals were radial laced mate  :daumenhoch: .  There have been a couple of variants on lacing these, a guy over on the museum a while ago drilled the holes on his hubs perfectly in line with the existing holes....just on a different pcd, and then lace them 4x.  It must be an absolute arse to lace lol.

The other set that ive got are radial laced too.....but instead of alternating the spoke length, the spokes were laced in pairs around the rim.  Ill dig some pics out  :daumenhoch:

I read this thread yestersday and then had a dream about these wheels last night.  This morning I couldn't work out whether the dream was just a dream or that I'd actually seen this thread.  I've been effected.
