Threaded both sides of hub with 2 different thread sizes, different size free wheels fitted and you can flip then around to change gearing.

I have a flip flop Suzue hub on the rear of my supergoose, I thought you flip the wheel around so you can make it a fixie.

To my understanding you had the flip flop hub so you could change the gearing instantly just by flipping the wheel so you might have a 14 tooth on one side and la 16 tooth on the other so if you wanted a lower gear at a certain track etc  it was. a 1 min job to change the gearing

The rims that came with my Brum WHEELS were laced to Suzue hubs with a flip flop rear, and I am assuming they were original to the build. No idea on specific dates though.

Callum, as folks have said already, they usually had a 15 or 14T frrewheel on them to swap at a track by just turning the wheel round. The smaller side is a metric M30 thread and you can now fit down to a 13T freewheel on them (Odyssey make one) so you can run a 36/35 front like my race RetroGoose has :daumenhoch:

And my Badlander before that :coolsmiley:

Still limping......

BMX Flip flop hubs have been around since the mid 70s, Suntour and Shimano made them among others, they have been on track bikes way before then.

weren't flip flop hubs a flop,  complete waste of time, I have yet to see a bike with 2 cogs on the rear hub so you could whizz it round.  Don't know why they sold,  they look shite as well on a pony,  just my opinion anyhow.... :coolsmiley:

Bikes with 2 free wheels on were  indeed a rare sight. I'm going to stick a pair on to on of my flip flopped wheels right now.  :2gunsfiring_v1:
