About 3 years ago now I landed a 79 Goose from Spen. It was his copper coloured Goose if folk recall, first built with black and then yellow parts...

I originally bought it because i liked the colour however I tinkered with it but then put it away...

After archiving it for a few years I realised it had stayed there because of the colour, so I had it stripped and painted black...

...but still didn't like it.

The penny finally dropped that it needed to be in a 79 colour. Off it went to Dan to be refinished in candy blue. I was confident that the colour would be spot on as I had followed Sean's DeCoster thread (which i think was before I became a member on here...

)

Although the colour is now "factory", i'm going for a street / race build but still using parts primarily from the 79 Catalogue, including

A Mongoose Gold Stem and SS bars, both OG

Is it me or is that the wrong hue...?? $:-\$

I'm not fooking about...that's not the blue I expected...

It looks different in the flesh, its a metallic or highly reflective finish so will be affected by the colour temperature of the lights illuminating it.

Just by simulating a different bulb the colour changes...

My frame is also powder coated ergo goniochromatism is different to paint

Haven't decided yet on the crank, I have a set of Goose pedals which are 1/2" so I could fit a OPC, snowflake and Goose BB...

If I go 3PC the pedals won't be used but I do have a lovely NOS chrome set of KKT Lightnings...

So my current big question is where shall I place the "team mongoose" decal?

I have a OG pad set but my gut is telling me on the top tube irregardless....

down tube same as supergoose, after all it is also a supergoose frame, i would only fit to the top tube for a motomag

Yes, I would prefer to put it there but all of the 79 Geese have their decals on the top tube - well in their catalogues anyway...

It wasn't until 1980 that they placed them on the down tube in any of their promotional materials....

I'm trying to find an OG picture with the decal on the down tube and i'll be good to go...

from what I've seen.. the 79-80 catalogues show the supergoose/team as having the decal on the top tube, where as the 81 shows them on the down tube.

Never noticed that before, supergoose definitely goes on the downtube, being a 79 i would agree and go top tube for a team, but don't fit the pads, show off the decal and that lovely double clamp stem.

Stu Thomsen had the Team Goose decal on his SE/Goose Long on the down tube. Pretty sure PK also had it there too.

Yes, they were all on the top tube in 79 and then all on the down tube from 1980 but thats factory, i'm not building this to factory spec...

I want to utilise the pads as they're like new, cleanest set of OG pads I've seen in a long time (thanks Lee

The colour is candy blue, silver base coat then candy blue or translucent blue as some call it over the silver, the pic makes it look more solid blue but it was taken with my phone cam that doesnt show the true colour
