Oh the nostalgia my first BMX was a Piranha it was that or a Webco
but as it had mags that did it, even though it weighed about 40lbs
and the headset wheel and crank bearings wore out weekly i loved it.

My first BMX was one of these.

40 pounds of heavy metal mild steel monster in noddy red and yellow.   I'm sure the wheels were stolen from a Intercity 125, but being a feeble little lad, I couldnt break it.

I got it ordered up spring 81 but there was a big backlog at the factory and it didnt arrive til summertime, I guess dating it, my dad brought home a copy of OBMX 6 about 3 months after I got it, something like that.  I got it becasue I had broken a few bits on my Raleigh Strika in the lead up, and I guess dad could see that longterm Id be getting a bike that would fit better and last.

Oddly enough, I never really "loved" it as a bike. It was functional, but to be honest, I remember a lot more about my DB Silver Streak that followed about 18 minths later.

Did fir red rad pads and a copy mx1000 + tech 2 brakes to it.

My mate had one of these bitd when I had a Mongoose Cali. I had forgotten what it was called until I saw this thread. Ghastly in Red and Yellow. I had a puncture and went out on foot on a particular day and whilst climbling trees, two bigger lads came and nicked that Piranha and it was never seen again...

...thank the lord they never got my Cali...

Mark.

Nice one Kev, my 1st BMX was a white Piranha...  it got a right good thrashing, snapped the front off at the head tube, and got a new frame in black...  I'm pretty sure everything that could break did...  wheels, pedals, brakes etc.  loved it :daumenhoch:

you have one in the loft?

sort it!

Its more "old school" than any cw JMC Hutch ect will ever be.

Why? Becasue most of us started out on one. Its the reason 20 years later were all buying "nice" bikes - becasue our parents couldn't afford them in the early 80's.

I'd find a Piranha more interesting than most of the more modern bikes, and anyone that still got one must have stories to tell.

it is odd though that bikes like the piranha and pro star swamped the market
and yet you see so few for sale

burners seem to have survived a bit better plenty of them about

Agh the old fish that bites back. My first BMX bought from a toy shop on the Old Wareham Road, Parkstone. My Mums friend owned the shop so that was it. Sure could not lift it but man I could jump it and break it. Both wheels cracked and eventually the frame top tube went, Great I thought, new bike time :) until Dad took it to a fella who slid an extra top tube inside the broken one and then welded round the crack into the other tube for strength. :-\. So an extra 1lb for my tiny frame to lift. I too have some shots mid air, must get them on here. The thing is these old beasts made you strong and tough, when you hopped on a MRD, Redline, Nishiki you could rip em because you had been riding a cart horse all that time. Great memories. Ohh yeah I ended up with Mongoose steel rims that had teh cones keep tightening up and they would nearly chuck me over the bars when they locked up :uglystupid2: I had to keep turning the bike upside down and unwind the back wheel. My God how crazy is that. I think I was 10. :LolLolLolLol: :Great_Britain:
