Buying from Japan......
« on: February 26, 2014, 09:56 PM »
Having been bent over and reamed out by the Royal Mail to the tune of £12.50 vat and "handling fee" on a £20.00 brake cable from the US my arse is twitching like a bunnies nose at the thought of buying some odds and ends from Natsukashi....... Anyone buy and get stung by customs or is it generally something that gets through?

I've had loads of parts off Ian, never been stung for any additional charges.  :daumenhoch:

Burt,

The 1st time i bought a single kashimax it was a ok but when i bought another 2 together  i got stung, so i'd tread carefully & just buy bits at a time.  :daumenhoch:

Cheers all.  The point above is my worry as I need 4 or 5 chains and a couple of other odds and ends - I suppose that what I save compared with UK is a lot more than the customs charge (incidentally, I have no issue with the customs fee and VAT, but the Royal mail admin fee is another matter........)

I've had things off him a few times and never got "taxed" I suppose it's like the old days of buying from the US it's the luck of the draw, I suppose now eBay are double stinging people for the import tax from the US to the UK customs are busy sorting that lot out :)

I might actually build a bike this year instead of just hoarding parts :)

I never got a customs fee from them when I bought the odd item. Delivery is pretty quick too. :) Same when I bought from Mr porkchop.  :)

I've just bought a Kashi Aero from him yesterday, could've got the same from Alan's with no charges, but Ian's £6 cheaper than Alan's.

We'll see what happens, and if it was worth the risk to save £6.  :daumenhoch:
