Hi everyone

I have a bit of a newbie question for you. I have all the parts for this next build (which is going to be a rider) except for the seatpost.
I was checking out other builds on the museum and this pic is pretty much what I am going for:

Just waiting on the frame and forks to come back from the powdercoaters and need to get hols of a seatpost.
I was under the impression that laybacks were for freestylers and straight posts are for racing frames? Can you run a layback on a racing frame or is this a bad idea?
I am only about 5ft 6" but am a tad fat at 12 stone

Any advice on this before I go and buy a post? Many thanks fellas

Dude, I am 5' 7" and weigh 14 stone. I ride with a layback on my Torker but, to be honest, I rarely do sit down as the plastic seats are like friggin' razor blades

I'm 13 1/2 stone and have a hutch layback on a mongoose frame, I can't ride a bmx with a straight post.
just make sure that the post is a very good fit before you tighten the clamp and also in the frame a minimum of 4 inch's and it will be absolutely fine.

if your knees hit or are near the stem / bars fit one if not dont.. 5 ft 6 is good size for a bmx .. i personally think laybacks and snake posts are awful but bigger people need them ..

I prefer the look of a layback, but wondered why you dont tend to see them on racing builds? I think I have a straight post laying around so will get a layback and try them both out, just wanted to check first

most cooks bros racing and hutch bmx's have laybacks dated around 79-82, i agree with the post above, snake laybacks are awful , the best looking layback in my opinion is without a brace but being 5' 11 i can't ride a 20" bmx with a straight post.
or you can go the other way and fit a DK pro xl, or xxl stem,
Hutch laybacks are nice but pricey, there are plenty of tioga layback posts around with the brace running through the centre of the tubing.
