Buying from Ebay.com (USA)
« on: August 13, 2006, 04:50 PM »
I have seen a few bits on evil bay in the US and was unsure what the situation is with regards to taxes at customs - The first item is a pair of tires.

Whats the situation, will they get stopped, how much will i get charges???

Thanks Aaron

out of a couple of dozen items, i have only had one pulled up by customs
and they added VAT to the value on the label

beware of lengthy delivery times though. on many an occasion i have waited 8 weeks for a frame
by that time, it's disappeared of "my ebay"

its all about trust!

Sometimes you get hit for Tax, sometimes you don't. Just allow for the Tax & yes pay the extra & get it Airmailed its worth it.

Thanks guy for all the advice - won the item and for only $30.00 so its under the threshold - its being sent UPS, so will be with me in a week.  Have confirmed it all with customs, so fingers cross.

Just got my Skyways delivered from the US today, £14 VAT plus £8 Clearance Fee.

Items over £18 (or £36 in the case of gifts) are subject to VAT.

I'm very happy with these wheels though, worth the wait & cost, after messing around with several knackered pairs I've finally got a good set.
Well, minus a sprocket, lock ring, dustcover and wheelnuts - hence my wanted ad.
