Stripped stem threads
« on: February 02, 2014, 08:11 PM »
Evening all!

Well the team master build is well underway. However i was bolting up the bars today and noticed that two of the threads in the bolt holes are stripped "help" They are completely smooth on the inside.

It's an aluminium Haro Team stem.  What are my options?? I'd like to avoid using bigger bolts, as i'd have to mess around with the stem cap holes.  Get someone to alloy weld them and re drill/tap?  Or redrill and Heli- coil?

I'm pretty handy, but i think this job might have to be farmed out to someone else.

Any suggestions from you guys is greatly appreciated. Second build, second fooked stem :2gunsfiring_v1:

Heli coil  :daumenhoch:
Sixteen thirty-two. What is that? A year?   No, it's your top score on Pole Position.

Any decent engineering shop locally should be able to do it cheaply. If you can drill and tap though the kits are cheap enough.

The choice is yours.

Heli-coil definitely, not the hardest job in the world, you just have to be able to drill straight (use a pillar drill).
