i wonder if it was just raw frames that came to the uk from taiwan?
-chromed here, assembled with renthals?
-or even if they came chromed, decals put on here

-by ammoco

Ammaco  and mongoose had a deal with motobecane in france to make frames etc for europe market
certainly true for the cali and i expect other modeals too - blue max for instance same frame
lower spec parts and sold through halfords

In regards to stickers on bikes

the Tange made raleighs came stickered from Japan, as the guy who made all the raleigh stickers for burners told me, and he should know lol

what this has to do with geese is tenuious to say the least

but i felt left out

ammaco should have called the expert the "expert"
rather than tricking people into thinking they had a supergoose.

another great decision for bmx in the uk

bit like when raleigh saw the bmx thang going down in the US, and decided what the UK needs is the "grifter". thanks guys.

But from a bussines point of veiw raleigh did Ok out the grifter , got us all to buy one then released the burner , so a load of people bought one of them as well, double bikes all round

Great thread, just spent the last hour reading it! :D

I have a 1985 Californian with an enamal headstock badge imported from the US, it has the sticker on the main tube stating full chromo frame and forks.  Over Christmas i stripped it back for a bit of a rebuild and can confirm full chromo frame and forks!  It also states on the seat tube sticker made in taiwan, i think it is exactly the same as the UK Ammaco Supergoose.

Tomorrow i will take some pictures, just for the record, although as the original stickers were warn and pealing they have been removerd ready to be replaced, ummm Mongoose or Supergoose.......... ;)

let us not forget the 1980 style ammoco
-with the mongoose circular gusset
-but with the brace between down tube and seat tube
-i had one of them!
-swapped it at old hayes track for  bxfr wit cotter pin cranks!!!

-painted it and couldn't wait till the paint hardednned
-it had  a nice lois cord effect top tube !!!!!

-anyway -back to the point - clearly the 1980 gusseted mongeese were welded with the funky heliarc nice beads -was the ammaco mongoose with the seat tube plate thing made in the us or elsewhere?
-maybe the ramper was out of chatsworth too
--the gusseted one with the little hole -no 'R'
-and the 1980/81 proburner and rampar are actually tange built under instructions by mongoose
badged as raleigh

the plot is corn starched

The sticker under the seat post said Californian Made in Taiwan so the CH in the frame number doesn't mean Chatsworth does it?

This is a thread that just keeps on giving   :LolLolLolLol:

From the headtube badge, I would also say Californian  :daumenhoch:

Dont get me wrong, i'm sure the bike is a Californian as the original stickers said, i was just interested to find out if it is the same as a UK Supergoose.  As far as i am aware 85 was the first year the Californian had full Chromo frame and fork, as did the SG... :)

the everlasting thread  ::)

its quite likely its the same F&F (assuming forks are chromo not mild steel)
but nothings a given with mongoose

think they were flying by the seat of their pants
bikes made US, taiwan & some in France

bloody minefield

Seems strange to me to put the letters CH into a frame number that was made in Taiwan  ???when your also making frames in Chatsworth USA, i think it said chromo on the inside of the fork headset :crazy2:

Am lookin for a decent Proclass and am now shattin it in case I end up with a supergoose frame decalled up as a Proclass :-\

I can't believe I missed this thread!... :uglystupid2:

The BB is how you tell if it is a PC or not...dead give away.  The tubing on a PC is thinner than all other Mongoose models, except for the Rupe Signature model.  But there are other specs for the Rupe as well.  If you ever consider buying a "Pro Class"...always ask to check out the BB or ask to see a pic of it before purchasing it.

can i throw the first spanner in

i have a trimoly frame - californian, and its stamped on the section behind the BB shell ?

Proclass has thinner wall section to its tubes and as such needed top welders and is very lite and dam sexy
it should have larger diameters on down tube and rear stays over cali and expert (and UK supers  :coolsmiley:)
generally a 3 hole brake bridge unless its 82 early model - see stidds one
and weigh feck all

the US spec super is identical in looks but not weight 2lbs (ish) heavier due to the regular wall thickness in the tubes
cheers Kev
