Mag Wheel Choice Dilemma
« on: January 19, 2014, 02:32 PM »
So, I'm getting close to getting the Piranha Freestyler finished.

I've been waiting for some wheels off Magicat, some Aero Zytecs, which were the wheels that came with the bike that I had back in 1985.

Now, without sounding ungrateful, which I'm not at all Matt and Brett, who incidentally had between them taken ownership of the wheels and offered them to me free of charge, they were a bit more cream coloured than I had hoped.

I had toyed with the idea of bleaching them, but could I really be arsed? So I decided to give them a light resto. This included me giving them a wash with some hot water and a little bleach in the kitchen sink, then a wipe down with some Flash wipes, and I then sanded all the brake rub marks off the braking area from the rear wheel.

I also have the hub covers, nuts and washers a buzz with some Autosol and the Dremel.

Then I fitted them to the tyres. The tyres are white wall snake bellies that I got off Dave Brummie last year, they are, like the white Zytecs, the right ones I had in 1985.

Now, here's the problem. I don't like them now they're fitted to the bike.

So, I tried them with some black Tuffs I have...

This is my dilemma, do I run with black Tuffs, which I think looks better, or do I let my OCD take control and have it as what it started out to be as a replica of my childhood bike?

Replica all day long, plus I think the white look better.

I also think they look better being off white rather than blingy white.  ;)

White, white , white !!!!!!

You can't be surprised by our response Dan...

One thing I like about building a replica is the parts are already decided for you!!!!

Gotta say suprisingly I think the Zytecs look better and look more in keeping with the build ;)

I've really enjoyed seeing this one come along I've got a soft spot for the Piranha used to see them a lot when I was a kid but this is only the 2nd Freestyler I have ever seen it must of been 1985 when I first saw one and that was a black one :daumenhoch:

I can't lose the white walls, they were one of the things that attracted me to the bike on '85 Rob.  :daumenhoch:

Sixteen thirty-two. What is that? A year?   No, it's your top score on Pole Position.

Zytecs - no question.
When I was born, the world was a far simpler place.
It was all just cops and robbers.
And BMX.
