Stockwell/Brixton skatepark
« on: January 19, 2014, 10:56 AM »
I grew up not far from here in Streatham, but back then it was a no go area if you wanted to leave with your bike so I never rode it apart from once very briefly at night   :(

What puzzles me is why in some photos it appears to be a red colour, was it painted or stained at some point ?

I'm planning to ride it again this year  :)

Just found this

http://www.londonskateparks.co.uk/skateparks/stockwell/

So it was renovated a few years ago, but I don't remember it being red back in the 80s, but like I say I only rode it once & at night.

Used go down there.. Ruff as fook. I grew up in balham till I was 10 or 11. Steve69 got his bike stolen off him as soon as he got there.. Never remember it being that red colour.. Strange one that.
Griff loves BUM..

Funny you posting this Chris. I was only telling Woody yesterday the story of my trip to Stockwell and how I didn't leave with my bike  :'(

 :LolLolLolLol:

I think it was resurfaced at some point  :-\
If there's air in the tyres... it's a rider

That's a shame about you not leaving with your bike  :(

I heard loads of stories of this kind of thing at Stockwell BITD, so we avoided it  :(

Saw this place the other year when I went to see the mission at brixton accadamy.  Looks a great park but the local dealer was sat up on the top so does look a no go zone

It's been resurfaced twice & now redesigned & totally resurfaced with 5" of fresh concrete & it was resurfaced sometime I think in the late 90s with the red surface..

It's now quite different from the original design with banks & coping added.

I love 70s Skateparks  :smitten:

it was resurface in the 90`s and was a disaster as lost all the curves as made everything poor to air , then they started building ramps later on at the back of the park and then got a revamp a while back .
still not a great area but we are a lot older than we were back then and loads of place in london were bad back in 80`s as remember meanwhile was bad for taxing as nearly lost my haro there
