My 1995 mongoose menace FINISHED
« on: January 07, 2014, 06:21 PM »
Well after getting my 2x villains I decided I wanted to build a race style bmx as a rider to get to work an back
And as I don't know much about 80s bmx I thought I'd stick with what I know which is 90s bmx
I wanted a bike with a loop tail rear and ideally chrome
Quick search and I found this 1995 mongoose menace for a decent price

Once home It cleaned up well

So then I had to start finding other parts to finish it off first on the list was a chrome profile crank which luckily are still easy to find
Then I found some NOS mongoose pedals in yellow which will go well with the OG yellow decals when I get them made

Then I got some cheap wheels just until I can find or build an age related set
Also dropped the villain bars on just to see what it will kinda look like

Really needed some better bars so I found some s&m slams cheap enough
And this is how it sits now hopefully get the last few bits sorted over the next month or two and it will be ready for the better weather

Really? Each to their own - never really liked the look of The Imperial.

Whippet to me's classic 95-98. Always thought the Imperials looked a bit cheap.

Bit of an update on this guys
I've had my wheels built up profile mini hubs with sun big city lite rims 36h and skinwall dirt monster tyres

Also upgraded the sprocket to a profile inferno

So now it looks like this

Nice with the minis - there's a bloke on eBay every now and again that flogs yellow Oddy A-Brakes - they'd look good on that they would  :daumenhoch:

(and I know you'll still hate me for it but a Whippet would look nice on that)

I wasn't expecting much when i clicked on this thread coz im not really a fan of 90's geese, bar the solution pro. But im really digging your menace. Some very nice parts on it. Good choice on the power paw grips all my bikes have them. I liketthe plate too, who did that?

Thanks dude
Yeah i really like 80s race bikes but i dont know much about them so i stuck too a 90s bike but i wanted to have an 80s style frame with a looptail rear end and i lnew the menace was a basic spec bike but the frame is a nice shape so just went too town on it lol
Yeah grips are sweet i used to ride with them back in the 90s
And the race plate was from here
 http://www.bmxraceplates.com/categories/OLD-SCHOOL-COOL-Plates/

I messaged him the details of making a custom one im happy with it really sets the bike off

Good man. The thing to bear in mind with 80's race frames is, with a few exceptions, the geometry will be pants. And they are weak so go steady hopping up and down kerbs!!
Cheers for the plate info, they look good some of them.
