« on: January 05, 2014, 09:00 AM »
Hi guys

Got this as a donor as cheap and nice forks and stamped b b and headset but when its landed its better than thought as you can see..

So someones had a go at removing it and have sawed through the post inside.. but whats best way to remove more??

Anyone know anyone who would do it... is drilling easy?? My mate has a decent workshop and bench drill etc...

Cheers steve

If the seatpost is an Ali one then Caustic soda it. Takes a while though (days not hours). You'll have to keep topping the soda up.

Otherwise it can be drilled. Slowly does it though and make sure you go through the drills in size e.g start small and work your way up. Be careful to follow the angle of the seat tube though as you don't want to drill through the frame itself. When the post becomes thin start pressing a screwdriver in to try and break what's left of the post rather than drilling it. Better to be safe than sorry.

Cheers bud... I think it's alloy bud just checking.... so fill seat post tube up with caustic soda??? It wont damage the chrome or anything if spilt?

Or just go steady and let it fizz round the seatpost to eat the alloy

Correct, it wont damage the chrome.

Be aware though the fumes off it are immense. Burns like buggery if it gets on your skin aswell.
