GT frame and forks, which model?

it seems they dont mention this in the 96 catalouge and just say they feature chromoly tubing, not saying full 4130 chromoly

just like they say built in the usa, frame, fork and parts are made in Taiwan, then the bike is assembled in the usa

where as only the top models i.e the fueler, pro freestyle tour, cruiser  etc.. are genuinely made in the usa

trimoly tubing is weaker, basically only the top tube and downtube are full 4130 chromoly the rest is made of a milder steel

not a problem for the kind of action it will see now but back when new trimoly bikes were crap and bent, broke easily due to the weaker tubing used and the style of riding at the time.


even full 4130 chromoly bikes broke with enough abuse but the trimoly ones didnt last 5 mins in the right hands

Yeah thats it......

I think GT and probably other manufacturers would put a 4130 sticker on the seat tube when in reality it was only the seat tube that was 4130.

the first 2 are mine, the pro freestyle is just a pic i got of the museum

that was relatively cheap!! gt were a big company back then but  the quality wasnt that good, a complete bike for that price wasnt going to last but it was better than some of the other completes out there

i paid £550 for my standard sta frame and fork back in 94, add another £200 for peregrine super pro wheels, £200 for profile cranks and your nearly at 1k and still need bars, stem, saddle, post, seat clamp, seat, tyres. pegs, gyro, brakes, levers, grips, pedals, freewheel, chain etc...

a good bike wasnt cheap but it would last!!!!

Not cheap hobbies are they, I thought bmx would be cheaper than mtb but they are right up there price wise with them.

Like your pro series looks nice and the fueler.

What other bikes you got?

cheers, got around 9 bmx's in total inc various s&m's, standard sta, zima, gt etc... aswell as a couple of road bikes and a mtb

retro 90's mtb's are soo much cheaper to buy/collect than 90's bmx's


here's my 1992 specialized hardrock ultra, top model of the entry level range, paid £55 for it



thinking about collecting 70's and 80's road bikes aswell but seriously running out of room
