Correct DK stem quill measurement ?
« on: December 29, 2013, 09:23 PM »
Now aren't stem quills supposed to be 21.1mm ?,  i have a DK square pro stem that is like new, so no wear, it measures 20.8mm, not unlike a seat post will 0.3mm make any difference when it's the wedge that tightens it ?
just would have been happier with the 21.1mm before tightening.
Don't get me wrong it tightens ok but are other DK stems this size or do i have myself a Friday afternoon stem ?

What size is the wedge buddy? Is it a short wedge or a long wedge?

The quill is about 4 1/2 inches long and has dk's trade mark alloy wedge , quite long

That sounds about right buddy. I think the early DK quills are like that so you could use them on anything, including mini builds, as the stem is quite thin and not very long on a standard.

It will be fine when tightened though. If you are woriied and like to run the stem a little high off the headset, you could always use a stem stiffener  :daumenhoch:

Probably just being a bit paranoid, i'm running a 6mm stem stiffner which has been made a snug fit at 20.8mm , your right in the length of stem quill being about an inch shorter than any other stem though but iI thought dk made mini stems as well ?
It may just be a machining error, ideally need to measure another dk quill.
Thanks Terry for your reply :daumenhoch:

Thanks mate, I know that stevenbven has a really nice red dk square stem on ebay at the moment but it will be rude just to ask if he could measure the quill for me, If this stem ain't right i may try to find a double clamp mongoose stem in stead

Got both the square edged DK stem and the rounded one ...

Square edge measures 20.75, later rounded one 20.8  ;)

Thanks NORTY40, Any reason you can see they are not the specified 21.1mm ?
In your opinion do you think it would grip the inside of the mongoose fork better than a double clamp supergoose stem ?
