Haro Master (Gen 3) Project
« on: December 08, 2013, 03:35 PM »
It's all Mick's fault that I'm doing this project. We had a chat about Gen 2 Masters on the London ride and that was it, I had to get another Haro. I had a Gen 3 before but did a trade deal and I went. So another Gen 3 it is.

After a few PM's I picked up a well used Gen 3 from Swivel.

The FF has been used up until the late 90's for flatland and has had lugs welded on the rear tubes for brake mounts. It had a hydraulic brake on the forks, it was quite a beast!

It has some metal repairs that need to be put it right and Swazall is very kindly going to undertake these.

Here is how it arrived:

I gave it the Starchem Synstrip treatment, bloody hell that stuff is strong, by the time I had coated half the Frame the paint was melting off, smells great but stings like a mother if you get it on your skin like I did!

This was the paint melting off:

And here it is stripped, I didn't do a meticulous job on it as I had limited time and just needed to see if there were any other repairs needed before it goes to see Phil.

So the repairs list Phil is going to do is:
1/ Removal of the lugs and smoothing of the tubes.
2/ Repair to the LHS top tube where there is a small flat.
3/ Close the drops on the forks as they have been bent out a little.
4/ Ding, you can see a small ding about 2 1/2 inches down from the gusset plate, it's only small but will be noticeable once painted, I don't know what repair Phil could do on this? Perhaps a weld over the top and then smooth it down flat?

It's going to take a while as I can't afford to do all the work in one go, so there will be a delay (have wait till I have been paid next month) to have SBD powder it and decals from Del.

Not entirely sure yet Mick.

Oakley .5s and Elina Lightening bolt seat, OPC and DXs, black brute stem and probably some random freestyle bars I have already. I want to add some colour with the brakes and power disk. Maybe some white Zeds too?

I'm going to have to put up with some temporary parts until I can fund the parts I want. Long term project.

Nice I like it when a frame is used like this one, my 84 Gen 2 Sport was the same

Will be good to see Phil do his work & get it back to how it was  :daumenhoch:

I'm not sure how many Gen 3 Masters there are, but I don't think as many as people think  ???

Perhaps smth like Steve did on his MRD pro here ->http://www.radbmx.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,107511.msg1068253.html ...... the 'hard slow process' of hand filling with braize. I wouldn't worry at all :daumenhoch: ...full works build, waaah !

Phil has worked his magic!!!!!!!!!!

Ding in the down tube lead filled and smoothed over.

Top tube lead filled and rounded smooth where it had been flattened and lugs removed.

He has cleaned it up too.

It looks great! Hats off to you Phil, that's some great skill you have.

Superbikedan just sent me these photos which update the build nicely. The forks were a bit pitted so Dan coated them twice to get the perfect smooth finish.

Nice job Dan!

With all the restoration work that has gone into this by such talented radsters it is definitely going to be a keeper.

Just need the decals and finalise the build components chrome or black parts is the decision???
