here's a test of and some info about the bike, also more pics of it in the guise:

... if anyone recognizes the tyres on that bike, i'd really appreciate that. I know i won't find those, but I'm curious now, having looked at them and being clueless. Don't they make tyres as nice as those today ?!? I don't have hard feelings about buyin repop tech 6's, mx 1000's or .. oh well -if it has to-, even a repop kashi 'aero' for this, but it seems as if they don't make fs tyres as lovely as those anymore ......... strange
.. no way they don't make skinwall fs ones anymore ........ ? What kind of world is this ?

The photo shot out is my mate Robby Hooker @ southsea
He's had some bikes over the years & has some nice bits left too.
Can help with the tyres ,panaracer or comp st copies?

I already had this feeling he'd get id'd on here ...how cool is that pic
; the whole issue is fun, as it also contains the introduction of the dp firebird freestyler
- THanks with the tyres, Matt -- only found orange pana's so far (...well, i could always edding them), but comp st copies .... that already
sounds
good
... and off to hunt some blackies
.. shhhh ..,

Cheers Jase, great resto work on your cali - really cool that
THanks for the link, HP-406 not the pana's/sort i was actually after, but i'll keep 'em in mind, if he ships from oz
Trying to figure out if those even are 1.75s on the magazine pics
- comp st is at least pretty close, i'll just keep roaming...

I think those tyres might be the old Cheng Shin Freestyle Tyres or possibly IRC Freestyle tyres.

Cheers Ian - strange how the most common seeming part turns out to be the hardest to get hold of, so thanks for the heads up with the tyres; i'll have a look for those
Right now collecting the last bits....
The seat post turns out to be a problem after all; it's foo-kin stuck
. I'd immediately spill caustic all over it, only i should first really be sorting out a specialist, who could work on the seat tube; also i'm hesitant about dissolving an alloy cw post (?), so right now it's sit and brood... ... maybe it'll come out by itself ...
Please post a pic of yours - i read about it already, and would love to see it someday. Might be another one on this site soon, i've been told
- let's cheekingly leave it at that

No wonder we all wanted one, with advertising like this
All the other Cali's that followed just don't cut it compared to this beaut

Hows the restoration going on this, what a find, can't believe it's from a local dealer Josh Conways here in the North-east, but it was a great shop back then, so no surprise.Hope it's still a survivor and good luck with the build.

Great find
It would be great to keep it as a survivor but looking at the pics if it was me I'd seriously consider a refinish, I'd strip the paint so to see whats lurking beneath, especially that bit on the seat tube as it may need a bit of metal work, I'd remove the seatpost and have a look down the seat tube with a torch to see whats on the inside too.

Cheers Rod, yep i'll have a peek, need to go caustic though, as the fooker post is seriously stuck like fook in the tube. I think if it weren't for that, i'd even still consider keeping it somewhat survivor; but with bent tubes, that comes to a grinding halt. - Shouldn't moan tho, i recently heard of one where the whole luggage rack needs to be reconstructed, so hey
Hey Jay, hoped someone would recognise the store; i'll try to save and keep the sticker, maybe redo it. Haven't got all parts yet for the photo shoot replica; not real happy with the tech 6's, looking for something else, but to no avail yet. If i don't find a minty silver power disc, i'll have to strip my red one
. Also still looking for a 1.95 or 2.125 front, my 1.75 bit skinny for that me thinks.
Havent' even started looking for a bike builder yet, nor the stickers, though that one might be just a call away
. I'm just too lazy, yet i keep looking at it lovigly
. I'd just hate to have it in transit again - only just recovered from the wait upon its arrival here. -- So all in all ..... i'm still waiting for it all to fall into place ....someday, somehow, it's like Tetris, right?

Im looking for some dx pedals to restore aswell,
A lot of work done, just some little finishes to the forks, should be ready for powder in the new year, collected all the parts i need ( except pedals lol)
The 86 has been fully stripped all the parts have been mirror polished and the frame should be back from the chrome plater in a few weeks,
85 is just waiting for brakes to be annoed and a bottom bracket,
