Redline crank advice
« on: August 10, 2006, 01:51 PM »
Everyone seems to have early redlines fitted and nice ones at that.

Which are the best versions, How much should I pay, and where are the good ones coming from?

The " best " for want of a better word , would be the pre pinch bolt as they were the first out, so earlier and rarer than single pinch wrap around pedal boss 401s. got to be 300 quid at least

401s , the wrap around pedal boss single pinch , are the ones most used for resto Carl , i would say 250 for a nice set, rechromed of course.

after that there are some later 90s single pinch , but they dont wrap around the pedal boss say 150 ?quid look the same as 401s but do not wrap around the pedal boss kinda welded on instead , look graet but are mid 90s cranks.

Rich :)

For something a bit different go for CW/Terry Cable cranks or a nice set of box Profiles  :daumenhoch:
I see you stand like greyhounds in the slips,

Must agree on the box profiles, I'm still looking for some, they are certainly rarer than 401's and it seems on ebay of late even the 400's!!

Cooks cranks 'dogbones' are rather nice too, not stupidly priced and rarer  :coolsmiley:

Well said Mutt! There are two variants if memory serves, the solid ones and the ones witha cut out on the rear of the arms (bit of weight saving!!!).

The Terrycabe and CW cranks are sweet too. I am always lookingat them but have not managed to get any of these ones ....yet!

These are the ducks nuts. But those cranks are very good cranks too. Better priced as well. I'd use them any day. Without seeing the pedal boss as someone said it's hard to tell. If they are wraparound bosses your in luck.

Lee,

I remember that bike from a month or so ago. Albeit from this distance the flights do look like the full wrap versions. Either way I suspect you bought primarily for the f+f, and it was a good deal even if the cranks turn out to be the mid school versions.

Post some pics when it arrives.

Regards

Paul

So do the 181 cook bros come up often or does anyone have a set? Always loved em for that extra mil.
