Identify the part...
« on: November 11, 2013, 12:20 PM »
Ok, this a little bit of fun and also a call for some RAD  "help"

As I've mentioned in another thread i'm planning on building a JMC DY replica.

I'm after help in identifying the parts from the pictures posted below?

I know most of it is pretty clear but there are 1 or 2 challenges in there… Any additional insider info like he typically ran 180s or a particular spoke pattern (4X ?) will be greatly appreciated…

Chris

Looking at the position of the rivet i'd say Tech 3 (sweating emoticon)...

Every picture of DY personal bikes bitd, he always uses Araya rims, and more often than not chrome 7X rims so I would say that is what he is using here also.

DY mostly used Tuff-Neck stems and in the pictures he is using ODI mushroom grips.

Also if you look closely at the bottom picture, and then look at the bottom of the front rim, you see a faint red smear, I think you will find he is running red nipples on his wheels.

Thanks Sean, would you say the rear is laced 4x?  Would it then make sense that the front would be too?  I always thought 4x was more for freestylers?

Definitely looks like a DX / Tech 3 combo.  There's another pic knocking about of a twin speed set up that I think also uses a DX.  I'll see if I can find it.......

What I think he is running is 4x racelace, this is where all of the spoke heads face inwards.

He is not running a browning two speed though he is running a 2 speed Shimano rear derailleur.

Whereas DY is running a Shimano rear tensioner (I have the same one on my Schwinn Stingray).

Hopefully you'll let a pair go when I post that wanted ad.
