I'm thinking of running a Browning 2 Speed on a JMC DY, has anyone ever installed one, ridden one or have anything to say about them?

Agree with Pete, looks stupid on a BMX in my opinion even if DY did run it.
Just my opinion though.
One just sold on EBay for only about £1200 I think but didn't hit the reserve. The bike was gorgeous apart from the 2 Speed set up.

I'm building a replica so looks are predefined, my understanding is that they're challenging to fit and run correctly...

This is what I'm on about, I know Darrell Young experimented with it, i'll try to find a picture of him riding with it. If memory serves me right it was an all chrome JMC (if...)

I like the look of it - has an industrial look about it.

Yes I rode one that Andy ( Big Plinky) had fitted to his Maximum bike

Rode like a dream ,,silky smooth gear change .

Yes they are another different and unconventional BMX component , but a bit of positve diversity in this hobby can't be bad

Personally I thought it was pretty cool and well made

and if you can build a DY with one , then props to you Chris for doing it just as the rider rode it

Had one fitted to my Maximum for a few years.

There are two versions: the first gen ones (like mine) have the barrel of the shifter set in a fixed position and are very tricky to set up as I had to shim the barrel to get the correct angle for it to work, The 2nd gen unit has a barrel with an adjustable angle which I would assume is much easier to set up.

When they work (90% of the time) they are very good and give a real advantage coming out of the gate for the first pedal, my technique has been to set it up to shift before getting the bike on the gate and then it will auto-change after 3/4 of a crank turn as you come out of the gate. I would imagine they would wear very quickly in mud and also clog up quickly for that matter.

The other things you need to set it up are an offset back wheel (I'm using a modified Suntour hub at present) and a chain tensioner (give me a shout if you need one I have some spare ones)
