I have these hung in the shed............. Yes i know they're Ukais but they're the same for some reason.

What's weirder is i don't know where i got them from or from whom. I don't even know how long i've had them  :LolLolLolLol: They were hung under an old waterproof coat i've never worn. :-\

they look like L's on my phone!

It seems they all did similar shapes

Araya 7C = Ukai Box Rims
Araya 7X = Ukai Speedlines
etc etc

So, which are considered the better rims, Ukai or Araya?

Personal taste as they're pretty much the same.

Me, personally....... i'd have Ukai's all day long, whether they're sppedlines or Box rims 7c like mine above. At MK this year, Araya were on more builds than Ukai's.

Another choice of rims would be Ambrosio, rarer and they look awsome. Again i have a spare set of these.

I had a set of Ambrosio bitd. Very light. Flexible is an understatement! Very under-rated.

Personally I prefer Araya's

Ukai's came on the cheaper completes BITD (therefore being rarer and more sought after now)
Ambrosio's and Mavic's are very nice but were sneezed at for being European (again making them rarer)

Araya's 7L's are a good mix of 7B looks but with a full size braking surface  :coolsmiley:

Awwwwww, stop it now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   :LolLolLolLol:

This thread's got me thinking it would be good to have a parts timeline thingy. For example,  perhaps specific dates added to pics in the Pre 80's or pre '86 'Parts' sections??

Just a thought.......  ::)

bitd it was generally thought that Ukais were lighter but arayas were stronger......that could have just been a myth though as is was just an opinion type of thing  :daumenhoch:
as for the weinmann/araya thing, weinmann had a partnership with dia comp going back to 1965 so it is possible that they also worked with araya as all the japenese companys were linked under an umbrella organisation, sumo rims are also araya

I seem to remember BITD that a lot of American Pro's used a 7C on the rear and a 7X on the front, apparently the idea being that the 7C was stronger and the 7X lighter  :daumenhoch:
