Is Mid-Skool really from '87
« on: September 24, 2013, 12:06 AM »
Ok I'm going to upset loads of people here BUT! Thinking back to the late '80's I'm sure most of the big brand bikes dated '87 '88 where really '86 bikes with different colour ways. I know this is not the thinking on here but I was thinking that the bikes and tech really didn't change till '89 when bashguard bikes etc came in. While at MK13 I noticed that the show 'n' shine Mid-Skool freestyle category ,the bikes that won ( both beautiful bikes btw) where both '87 ~'88 which as I see it are old-Skool. My thinking is that Mid-Skool started from '89 onwards????

It started when the High-Top Fade hairstyle came in, and ended when the All Saints split up. So yeah - 1987 - 2001.

thing is lugs did appear in 87 but then disappeared again

none of the bashguard bikes had em for obvious reasons

most of the major mid school companies either werent around or their frames which were pre 1990 didnt have em

can anyone tell me what pre 1990 bikes came with lugs apart from the gt's and haros?

lugs didnt really become the standard till 94 with most major 90's bike companies

Hard to define into exact years as far as I can see, the 1990's gave or take a couple of years either side is probably as close as you can get, so late 1980's to early 2000's.

I see mid school as a transitional period between old school and new school when old school died and new school was yet to come.

Agree with Dave ... 1990 is best ... 89 at a push  :daumenhoch:

This topic may be done to death but while people have to keep posting 87 Haro's in MID SCHOOL then its going to keep rearing its uuuuggglly head

I'm not even sure the advent of Bashguards signaled midschool.
Early 90's, bikes started getting thicker dropouts & geometry was changing which meant no more would the rear triangle be nearly as long as the front! The engineering took a big leap forwards & stuff that was fit for purpose was being made.

Then there was the revelation that was the threadless headset/clamp on stem......

Suppose it was a transitional period over a number of years.... My 92 Robbo is 1 inch quill stem and caliper brakes.

Sounds arsey, but I don't give a t0ss what year MS started anymore - there's bikes from 1988 in the OS section and I'll put me own Mad Dog from 1988 in this section. Peeps can put their bikes from pre 1990 or whatever in the OS section or in here - whatever makes em happy.

I used to give a hoot about the years, but the debates starting to feel like one of them morning after the night before poos - it just keeps on coming back, and no matter how often you wipe the buggers still there.
