Powder coating removal advice please

What do you use that's readily available? I have some starchem Synstrip but it wont touch It!

Should do.

If you can submerge the item in Sinstryp then do it & give it time,  if you cant submerge the item try to place the it in a sealed container otherwise it starts to evaporate & dry out.

I placed a seat post in a heavy duty rubble bag & poured in the sinstryp & sealed the bag, it still took 2 days keeping the bag outside.
 
its not a quick process , if you are doing it indoors make sure it's a very well ventilated room,  failing that if you are sending the item to Dan for paint or powder he'll do it for you.

Its a Frame so haven't enough to submerge it,I'm thinking of going to a car body paint shop and asking them as they must have something that would strip it easily?

They all use synstrip from what i can gather (Paint is different to powder coat & comes off quicker ) . its not a quick process mate, i've done frames outside painting it on scraping a bit off using a wire brush etc then doing some more & it takes time (2-3 hrs) at least in some cases.

 The only other product ii know of is s (Permotex Gasget remover) but I think you have to buy it in from abroad.

I've used gasket remover (spray on) - works well, just as good (I've found) as Synstrip but costs more as a can will barely do a frame.

Yup, I've used gasket remover, loctite 7200, swore I'd just get it blasted next time.

You could also try a 'burn off oven'.  Some powder coaters have them.

Is it a Mountain bike frame? I have spoken with SBD before and some of the MB frames have a stone chip proof coating and Dan has even had problems stripping them.

ive had problems using synstrip on a powdered frame, the powder job was done in the mid 90's so was very thick and ive been told its different to the powder used today

best bet is to get it sand blasted/shot blasted by your local powder coater and generally costs less then a 5lt tub of synstrip

Its a generic bmx frame but it is early 90's so could have the bomb proof powdercoat mentioned above

I use this stuff. Works a treat on powder coating, paint and superchrome. If you do use it on superchrome it don't affect the chrome underneath.👍👍👍

I had a frame once that was powdered but had almost a plastic finish to it, very strange stuff. Anyway the only thing that removed it was sand blasting.

Could that have been Tough-Coat-Dynol?  My dad had a VW Golf in 1985 that was treated with a plastic coating.

Not too sure what it was called, Synstrip etc etc didn't come close to shifting it
