First attempt at black skyway tuff 2 revival.........
« on: September 20, 2013, 08:51 PM »
Bought a pair of black tuff 2s off ebay........ seller wasn't kidding when they said they'd found them in the back of their shed.  Thought I'd have a bash at a minor resto.......

Stripped the axles and bearings out.  Couldn't be arsed to remove the bearing cups so I just gave them a shake and everything fell out anyway......  ;D blasted the worst of the crud and spiders eggs away with the garden hose.  Chucked one in the dishwasher - hot cycle, two tabs.  Not bad I thought and chucked them in again, but this time threw in a pair of Ame tri as well out of curiosity.  Surprisingly everything survived. :LolLolLolLol:

Had a rummage in the back of the garage and attacked them with much gusto....... 2 minutes with the brasso to tidy up the centre caps followed by a couple of generous coats of bumper black and a quick hows your father with one of the mrs tea towels.  I think they turned out quite well for a first effort?

Tools of the trade.

As they arrived.

Side by side before and after.

Finished!

The axles are currently hiding somewhere in a gallon of diesel and if I can get the bloody freewheel off the rear i'll do that one as well.......... I might even scrape of the brake rub and sand some of the crustier bits back........

It's great to see the things that people manage to use their dishwashers for, apart form just washing dishes  :daumenhoch:

Indeed...let's not go into what yours is used for... I'm still surprised you haven't had a visit from the RSPCA.

Turned out better than I could have hoped, I almost regret not spending more time prepping them....... The bumper black works a treat though!  Cheap and cheerful, no cocking about with dylon and not a hint of WD40 in sight.  You should see how autoglym vinyl care brings your rubber bits up and softens your sidewalls......
You always need a cheese option......

Sixteen thirty-two. What is that? A year?   No, it's your top score on Pole Position.

Good work Bert. If you want I can send you a freewbeel removal tool but by the time you've posted it you could have bought a new one or nip down to your lbs or even halfrauds to get it removed safely :daumenhoch:
Still limping......

Cheers for the offer Spen.  I have a freewheel removal tool, its just bloody tight that's all.  Its soaked in WD40 as I type this.  I've managed to loosen it, but its locking up on an accumulation of crap and believe it or not dog hairs....... (previous owner must have kept a dog in the same shed......?)  I'll attack it again later on as i'm trying to sort out the derailleur gears on my lads bike and it has to be said, failing miserably :LolLolLolLol:
