« on: September 15, 2013, 06:07 PM »
http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/bills/article-1633409/Historic-inflation-calculator-value-money-changed-1900.html

example
TRM 1983 cost = £125.00 / at todays money =£357.00
Mini 1974   cost £747.00 / £6597
House 1970 cost = £3000 / £41000

So which Bmx (or parts) represents the best investment??

I remember my dad paying 399.99 for a Panasonic top loader in 1982
The man in the shop let him have the (optional) wired remote control for free  :D

According to that calculator that's 1197.25 in today's money
Technology is rarely a good investment, but in this case we got to watch a pirate copy of ET  :teef:

Im gonna attempt to build a Hutch Hollywood for my mate.

LOOKING LIKE ITS GONNA TAKE ME 25 YEARS TO BUILD......

Firstly the parts are not available and secondly i am assuming it is going to cost him a small fortune.

I cant see prices going down anytime soon.

People in the game will prop up the prices. They wont allow them to drop as they will always demand top dollar.

Not that unintersting question - hpw much did DX's cost then, how much today? My feeling is that you can't speak of an advisable investment. As the pickle said, it's more about the quest for THAT ol' part, the  sl-c clamp, that specific oakley grip you remember. But if you really manage to make a few hundred on that specific pair - well, i guess you can speak of a 'good investment'  ::).
Thing is- by by specifying that specific item here, you probably contribute to those items becoming unaffordable to those, who really really want them.
So we'd have to speak about the average sought after parts. And those ...i said it already.... will by terms of your calculator rather not be caonsiderable as good investments.
Intersting question nonetheless  ;)

;D my ol' man bought the exact same one. Remember thinking how cool it was that you could use the "remote" even though the lead didnt reach to the sofa.

Here is a calculator which you may find interesting .............and maybe even a bit of fun??

:police: Under no circumstances are you to use it for anything BMX related, as this is likely to cause offence!

Thanks Griff for using it as it was intended  :daumenhoch:

yeah, you're right "bump" .. i was just too lazy ;D
 :chin:
So, let's see
dp firebird freestyler f+f cost £75 1984 ..... recently sold here for 330 (mind you: a bargain imo!)
........ still was a good investment à la calculator, as £75 today would be only 204.40.
But is it really? I guess not, as that amounts to an interest rate of only 1,32%.

Different calculation for the seller of course, if he bought the f+f lets say a year ago for £200 and now flipped it (  ;D) for 330:  then the interest rate is 39,4%, which is of course fantastic.  :teef:

New school is the way.

1. It works.
2. It's readily available.
3. In 20-30 years it will be worth a fookin fortune.

The way I see it is if you're building old school BMX's for profit/investment, for the love of God don't attempt to start your own business.
I'm new to this game and I'm doing it for the love of the bikes.
I've found a new level of skint, I'm addicted to finding parts and it excites me when I get what I want.
I don't see the end coming... Finish 1 start another blah blah blah.
Not once have I thought... Oh I might make a buck or two here.
Everything fun in life can potentially ruin your life.
But hey 'LIFE IS NOT A REHEARSAL'

....and another thing , if you use the phrase  "grail build" you really need another kick in the b0ll0cks

i thank you , carry on everyone  :)

A few people used OS BMX as a short-term investment and a way to make money in the same way any dealer does with a collectable, in at the right time when the market for OS BMX taking off, they looked, they found, they bought low, they collected knowing there was money to be made and then sold high.

Juan (BMX Addicts), Jeff Haney and our very own Biaggio being some examples I can think of off the top of my head.
