is the bottom bracket thread on a one piece cranks much bigger than the thread on maxi cross cranks?

Surely it depends on the spindle?
I've seen 2 set ups, one (generally US BB) is threaded like the BB area on a 1 piece, and then you have the euro BB spindle, with races for bearings.
Been a while though......

that's just what I though until I just tried fitting a one piece crank BB onto the threaded spindle for a 3 piece cranks....

Is it a different thread? Mongoose cranks had a different TPI on the same diameter spindle.
Or, I have a `small' us BB on a supermarket 16" mini bmx, looks like a US, but isn't!!!
Could it be either of these scenario's ?
