Most run the DC 750 or Shimano U brake if their frames didn't have the 990 mounts. It was easier than trying to get a 990 plate mount and fiddling with the brake  :daumenhoch:

most of us used to run add990's but also people used to run shimano exage u brakes

https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=shimano+exage+u+brakes&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=7qU0UujaNLKP7Aaz9oH4Dw&ved=0CEUQsAQ&biw=1696&bih=783&dpr=1.13#facrc=_&imgdii=_&imgrc=c9rZdyh6ap7pSM%3A%3Bp5ydmP-nJAHgoM%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.firstflightbikes.com%252F_borders%252FAntelaoBrake.JPG%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fforums.mtbr.com%252Fgeneral-discussion%252Fhow-can-i-tell-if-its-v-brake-cantilever-bosses-frame-49986.html%3B472%3B477

mainly because people couldnt afford a brand new ad990 and the exage brake was readily available from mtb shops and there was plenty 2nd hand ones around, for most of the very early 90's we used parts we could easily get our hands on, mainly left over 80's parts and mtb parts etc...
