My MK13 wipeout!!
« on: August 18, 2013, 11:04 PM »
Well here I am, lying in my little bed of shame in Milton Keynes hospital!
Sporting a totally snapped collarbone, splintered hip, lots of embedded gravel and internal bleeding, wasn't exactly the outcome I'd planned for my weekend at MK13 but hey ho! You can never tell what's around the corner ...or over the ramp in my case! ;0)
Apologies to everyone for blocking up the track for nearly an hour!
Anyway, just wanted to say thanks to everyone who came & helped me out after my face dive. I recall a lot of blurry faces when I came round, all asking if I was ok so thanks to you all for asking. Many thanks (and apologies) to the very kind & reassuring doctor & her family who's holiday I managed to turn into a bit of a drama! Thanks of course to the paramedics for patching me up and giving me morphine (I swear to god I went to hospital in a flying saucer!! ;) ) and finally thank you to Dominic for his excellent recap of my face dive, recalled in great detail to anyone who enquired, Jack & Luke for flagging down the ambulance & Chris, who allowed me to squeeze/crush his fingers whilst the snapped ends of my collarbone repeatedly ground together! :0)
On a more serious note, the docs here told me that had I not been wearing my lid, I'd have been in a really bad way, quite possibly not here to say thanks to anyone. As it stands, I've got bruising to my brain, dizziness & vomiting when I stand up & my vision has deteriorated, hopefully all just temporarily so really guys, wear a helmet, I can't see why you wouldn't??!! Common sense, surely??
One last thing, cheers for my medal! I'm not sure I should have got one for doing a great impression of a "gravel-munching wipe out" but it's got pride of place on my IV stand!! ;0)

Just to update everyone, I've now brought Emilie back home to Daventry (got back just after midnight) she is more worried that she spoilt our weekend than for her injuries!! She's in good spirits and on the mend.  I just want to say a big thank you to everyone that helped rally round for us and especially Gashead who couldn't do enough to help and make sure we we're all taken care of.  It was my fourth year at MK and we will all be back next year.  Thanks again, Chris.

I do some work for my iCal BMX club and see a few crashes, each and every time in amazed by how fellow riders and helper stop what their doing to help out. There's always a great spirit at aBMX track and that makes the sport rock. Speedy recovery

Hi Em

Yep I was there most of the time trying to keep the blanket over you and keeping you company, however the amount of pain relief they gave you would have knocked most people out. Me and Chris also carried you into the ambulance.

on a serious note mind, just shows why I scream at people every year to wear a helmet on the track.

You did shake us up a tad, but hopefully you will get better soon and Rad sends their love  :smitten:

Hey, I hope you liked your medal for trying to jump the doubles........ :LolLolLolLol:

All the best

Love

Nick - Gashead
