Is it possible to fade anno
« on: August 13, 2013, 01:18 PM »
I have just bought some repop DIA Compe tech 3 levers in gold but the gold is more like a bronze colour comparing them to my genuine Gold DIA Compe MX 1000 calipers and Gold Suntour power stem.

So does anybody know a quick way of fading the Gold anno on my new levers so they sort of match my 80s Gold calipers and stem.

Or does anybody want to sell me some 1980s gold levers.

you can do this but its a bit risky, pop them in an oven pride bag as if you are going to strip them, jiggle them about and keep taking out at very regular intervals to check how much anno has come off, once happy run under a cold tap :daumenhoch:

I wouldn't take that approach in the bag  :-\

I'd water it down in a tub to a weaker solution, otherwise Oven Pride will froth and leave an uneven finish.

I was successful in toning down a gold SR seat post in this way using a coke bottle and a very weak custic solution but that was a much easier item to whip out and wipe every few min's to check progress.

Good luck  :daumenhoch:

+1 this is probably your best bet.  :)

What about putting them in the dishwasher a few times?  :-\

If they're these, they're anno:

Yes Danny they are the same as I have but in the flesh they are more orange than a yellow gold.

I did it with a caliper once to try and match another and it did fade a bit. Whether it was because it was old I don't know, could even be the salt itself attacking the alloy  :-\

I think you've answered your own statement.

Paint stripper will struggle to move it.....    coz it's NOT paint, it's anno  :uglystupid2:
