Rawing help??
« on: August 05, 2013, 02:15 PM »
Hey guys I've had a frame stripped (it was dipped) not blasted and there isn't that cool rainbow colouring around the welds is there any way off getting this to show up? I've heard that you can heat the welds with a blow torch but not sure? This is what it looks like,

I've not picked it up yet so havnt seen it close up yet any help will be cool thanks guys :daumenhoch:

You can achieve the blueing with any decent plumbers torch though there is the possibility of weakening the frame if it has been tempered. Personally i think it looks pretty gash when people try a home job as they tend to get carried away and the localised blueing that would be achieved from the actual welding of the frame is usually smaller than people imagine.

why not just pick a paint / powder colour that aint the usual boring black or white  :daumenhoch:

How much heat will it need to do that? Will it need to glow red?

Mwha-ha-haaaaaaa  ;D

Honest Olly, wouldn't bother - as Clint's said it looks poo (unless you've had a lot of practice) when it's not factory. Also it's real difficult to blue the hard to reach spots on the frame (between the top and down tube at the head tube).

Get some that gun blue stuff, that'll give you an all over blue'd look.

You dont need to have it glowing red hot. You will see it blueing way before anthing goes red. You can get bluing paste as well which simply tarnishes the metal in a similar fashion.

How about a nice candy finish instead  :LolLolLolLol:

How about a soft polished or even brushed steel finish under clear coat? cheap as chips to do and wont look half as gash as the blueing  :-X

Ok yours wont have lovely braised joints like this but you get the picture re. soft polishing  :daumenhoch:

Or how about splattering it with whatever paint you can lay your hands on  :daumenhoch:
